New School Year and the Blessings God Has Ahead

3 min read

I started this post two weeks before school. We have now hit our 4th week of school. Time get's away from you when school and your routines get back into the rhythm of things.

I'm going to share what I already wrote and then up date you with how things have been going.

Summer

Throughout the summer we were able to spend a lot of quality time together as a family going to parks, beaches, pools and splash pads. We also enjoyed watching the world cup together and hanging out with our friends.

Every summer I get out of the daily routine and structure that teaching offers and tend to forget what day of the week it is which is nice. But now that we are coming closer and closer to the start of school I am slowly turning back into work mode and out of the relaxation mode. I am so grateful for the time off because it gives me the chance to reset before the start of the new school year. I'm excited to try out some new things and continue some old traditions. This year like every year will present new challenges and hardships but it's nothing God can't overcome with his ultimate power and wisdom.

Here is a quick update for what this Fall season will hold for us.

Jackson

  • is growing like a weed.

UPDATE as of September 21st

School shot off to a crazy start with multiple typhoon interruptions. But everything started off well. This year cross country has had the most runners i've ever seen since I've been here which has created a lot of new challenges that I haven't encountered. It has been a huge learning lesson. Very humbling. Brittany has had to write two papers now and that has been a big adjustment because she hasn't written papers since her undergrad which was 10 years ago. Avery has really been enjoying daycare which we call "school" and hasn't cried at all when we drop her off. We think that's because it's something she's grown accustomed to when we go to sunday school. Jackson is now only 1 kg from passing his sister. He is 7 months old now and can sit up by himself. He always has a smile on his face and is a super happy baby.

Family but Terrible Sickness

This past week we had a couple of special visitors with Brittany's mom and cousin visiting us. But it didn't turn out like we had planned. Avery, Jackson and I got extremely sick. We caught a flu and had really high fevers, coughs and runny noses. This has been one of the worst sicknesses I've dealt with in a long time and I still have some lingering side effects.

I am reminded of what I said above "This year like every year will present new challenges and hardships but it's nothing God can't overcome with his ultimate power and wisdom." And that's true. We need to lean on him more than ever with the sickness, and challenges that present themselves.

We are thankful for the support of our friends and families and are excited how God will continue to use us and help us grow as a family here in Okinawa.
